Alexandria,
First because you are giving the Lord the first of your time. You can check these out Mark 1:35
Psalm5:1-3. Read Ephesians 6:12, when you get up early you are preparing yourself aganist the world/evil one. You are being proactive spiruitual!
5am to me is best before you start your day. Me personal was a time I felt the Lord was pressing me to get up, then my mom one day told me to wake up at 5am ,that is the blessed hour. She was one of my conformation to get up! I read the word and pray. Hope this helps you out on your question.

Hey all. If you have not had a chance, go back and take a look at Shane's posting about his 5am encounter. I can truly see the Lord in Shane's experience with those church goers and the prayer that came about the following morning. God is so worthy of doing His will not just for the sake of our lives, but for the eternity of others. Shane, thank you for sharing your experience.

I think it's pretty much giving God the first of your day. If you have to go to work @ 7am, then 5 might be a good time to get up. If you go in @ 10am, then 7 or 8am might be a good time.

But there is definitely some weight with joining other people when they are getting up b/c 1) there is power in unity and 2) it keeps you accountable!

Understood, So 5AMERS what is your notion on studying the Bible MP3 versus traditional reading of the Bible. For me it is effortless and accessible but my Grandfather has warned me I should be physically reading. Have a BLESSED DAY! Matthew 9:37

I listen to the Bible often while I'm sleeping or walking somewhere. But reading the Word or having it in your heart is pretty much the only way to meditate on it.

There is also something very special about having the written word right there in front of you. As you look at that verse and ponder how many deep meanings it has and how it connects with your knowledge of the old and new Testament.

I wouldn't say that there is anything wrong with listening to the Word but I know that if I was preparing to minister the Word to someone else I would be studying from a hard or electronic copy or two
I wouldn't do it if I didn't love you.

I definately donot think that there is anything wrong with listening to the word on MP3, but I feel like with everything I do to receive clarification I find it in the word. I would feel a little uncomfortable relying on someone to read it to me.
Just like when you listen to a sermon at church or where ever it may be pastor always says "confirm it in the word, dont take my word for it" So yeah you do want to get into the habit of looking in the word.

Well, back in the day they didn't have many written copies of the Word, so they had to rely on verbal. BUT, because of that, they would then memorize it all. So, I'm not thinking that we're going down that road.

I'm with everybody else...it's great to hear the Word...but if you rely on that solely I think it's going to get you in trouble eventually b/c it's hard to really get it in you by just listening to it. You can't easily stop & view it & meditate on it.

So...don't give up listening to it...but make sure you're reading it too!

I concur in reading the word. Iam not knocking off listening to it on MP3. Its just some times you really can't stop and meditate on the word.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Alexandria.....

Well ... back in Nam... No! When I was ministry school I had to read several books and sometimes the same book in the bible 2 to 3 times for one class. After reading it once I was good but I had to read it two more times. So Dede and I decided to go to BibleGateway and listen to it. OMG! I was amazing. Max McLean read the book of John and even the stuff I had just read made so much more sense. I could see Jesus talking... context stuck out... the scenes of John came alive in my mind and what I had just read became even more real to me.

So... While I wouldn’t exclusively listen to the Word over reading it there is something awesome there that I would never let go of.

Just my thoughts.

I wanted to share something... I think we are attacked in our greatest area of strength. Why??? in areas of our weakness, we are more apt to call upon the Lord. In our areas of strength, we tend to rely on self and often find ourselves burning out from fighting our battles alone. We must fight on our knees before we can stand on our mission field!
(Ephesians 6:12) Since this is 5am prayer/word.
Wanted to share what the Lord shared with me. Don't give up, God is for you, and the battle is the Lords!!

wow. i had no idea we had the 5AM "club". i've been trying to rouse myself early on certain days because i've heard God speak to me specifically in those wee hours. there is something about setting aside our desires and wants (sleep) and going after god; he is so faithful to reveal himself and his nature even in our bodily weakness (when we are sleep deprived :) how cool that i now have a support group. tasha, i'm going to be emailing you shortly because i need someone to help wake me up in the mornings.
