You're skin's brown!?!?!? ha!
A question I would have before listing scriptures is, "Why don't they think God wants to talk to us?" Is it 1)because they don't think that's in the Bible 2)because they think they've done too much for God to love them & therefore want to talk to them 3)because God does not exist and therefore can't speak to people 4)because God does exist but doesn't want to have a personal relationship with people 5)something else?
The answer to that would definitely help the next step in the conversation.
But anyway, here's a few scriptures that might hint around the issue of God talking...
The Bible's full of prophecy (God speaking through people)- 2 Peter 1:21 "For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
Scripture itself is the very words of God - 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed..."
We get guidance by the Holy Spirit - John 16:13 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is [i]yet to come."
The Old Testament is full of times that God spoke to people - 1 Kings 19:11-13 "The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
It might take a little work - Deuteronomy 4:29 "if you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul."
Jesus does say we will hear Him - John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
Sometimes it requires purity - 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land."
This isn't conclusive by any means & I'm hoping somebody else out there has something more firm.
Romans 8 also talks about the fact that as followers of Christ, we are children of God. A father talks to his kids, and God wants to talk to His kids too.
I think we just need to look at the character of God displayed throughout scripture. God talks to people... that's one of the primary things that sets Him apart from the other "gods" of this world. Christianity/Judaism is the only religion to claim that their God spoke to a mass group of people & revealed Himself (Mt Sinai after the deliverance from Egypt).
We also have to understand that there are different understandings of the term "The Lord wants to talk to us." Some people hear that and think of sitting across a coffee table with the Creator of the Universe. That's probably not going to happen. They're probably never going to hear the audible voice of God either. But it's an internal voice... a gentle leading... sometimes a smack in the face... but usually the same still, quiet voice that Elijah heard.
