We say this but You hear

Postby Samrezzal on Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:00 am

Hey family whats crackin. This is my attempt to gain some insight into the way our sisters receive the way we communicate...
Because sometimes quite often what we say and what you hear are like Psalm 103:12 says about our transgressions distance from us "as far as the east is from the west"

I envision this topic becoming an awesome compendium of wisdom and insight into how a mans message can be translated once received.

ex.
I say "hey sis you bless me and I love you" and depending on the circumstance you hear??
I wouldn't do it if I didn't love you.

"Our son's name will be Isaiah & we'll live in Lawrenceville."

Just kidding. But a good question. Should be a good place for both sides to talk.

I'll jump right in with 2 feet... women hear what you say, but to themselves a whole separate conversation starts going.

"Okay, he said he loves me and I bless him. What does he mean by that. Maybe this is who God wants me to be with. But he loves me? Like he loves me like a friend - or is he hinting at something? I'm so confused now. So maybe when he did "such and such" he was really trying to tell me he has a thing for me?"

We've had this conversation in our small group - and I can for sure say quite a few women have said their brains work this way.

Sam, this is a great question. I think for me, it depends on who is saying it. I know that when you say that to me, I know that you mean it as a sister. Pure in motivation b/c I know your heart. I know for me, I really used to over analyze everything. (And God is still working on me with it!!)
I am trying to learn to take people at their words. First off you said "sis" Which clearly to me means sister. I don't think that Johnson calls Summer "sis"? If I am wrong then there might be issues in the young adult department. So that is how I know right off the bat that you truly view me as a sister in Christ. For others, it might be different. If you maybe said "sweetheart" or something like that, then I might have to start wondering?? I hope that helps some with your question. It is all in the phrasing and the conversation.

DD, that really makes sense at where confusion can come in...
Soo what about when we in our Mind are trying to be as purposeful as possible in our actions, but yet still haven't spoken "hey I think you're kinda fly" out of our mouths?
I wouldn't do it if I didn't love you.

Treat every single woman at Fusion exactly the same - I think Avery said it on another post. Don't single anyone out, and you can bet you're playing it safe. Now mind you, if treating everyone the same involves hugging and snuggling with all of them then we have a bigger problem ;)

Amen, to the snuggling part. I can dig it. I don't know about the huggin part though, cuz if you don't get hug from me, male or female, something is wrong.
