Import a Wife

Postby Cactusjeff on Wed Mar 19, 2008 9:57 am

I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine a few weeks ago and thought I would post it to the forum and see what you think and in all truth start an interesting conversation.

We were in a restaurant talking about relationships and somehow it got into my relations with women in California when I was living there. He ended up asking me if “there was anyone out there I had feelings about” and I said “yes”. She is an incredibly cool Christian and a person I believe I could marry within the right parameters I>E courting. Now the question he put to me was why don’t I “import her here”? I laughed because I have never heard of such a thing in my life and so he clarified why you don’t do a long “term relationship”. I have lost contact with her over the years but he said “reconnect when you go out to California and then start getting her to visit Georgia”. “Once she visits you in Georgia and you reconnect if things get more involved tell her how you feel and then as time goes by she will either move here or you will pop the question to her (Ask her to get married)” I ended up saying that the conversation was funny and moving on to other topics, but that conversation for the evening stuck.

Now I am not going to do the long term relations but I wanted to ask what do you all think of long-term relations? I know in Johnsons Hitched series he did not touch on the long-term as much as he did the danger of buying a wife like on a .com or internet dating. So what do you think?

Hey bro, in my book "importing a wife" and buying a wife are pretty different! This girl you already have some level of relationship with...even if y'all have drifted apart.

There's definitely no harm in re-connecting with her the next time you are in Cali and seeing what's up.

I've never really done a long-term thing though (more than an hour)...gotta be tough though. I would imagine it would be hard, but that doesn't mean it can't work.

The Man shall seeketh and the woman shall..........I think we all know that verse in the bible, as long as you are remaining with the correct boundaries there is definately nothing wrong

What the friend said is messed up! Why does the woman have to do the visiting from Cali to GA? The last time I checked, that's a pretty expensive flight! I thought it's "He who finds..."? Doesn't that mean the man is to pursue? 'Cause you know how we women are. If we come from Cali to GA to visit and it becomes a regular thing, we expect to see a ring ASAP! And it better exceed what we spent in air fare!

I was trying to make light of the situation. I think that it's great that there is someone that potentially "got away" and you have an opportunity to reconnect and explore the possibilities! The great part is that there will be lots of talking. So I hope you have a good cell phone plan! Either that or Vonage.
