truth behind the song healer by hillsong

Postby Colombian_Dan on Thu Aug 28, 2008 12:20 am

I believe this is recent news, not sure if anybody has heard about this, just thought it be important to talk about this:

So the story behind the song healer was that it was written by Michael Guglielmucci of Planetshakers and is in the new hillsong album This is Our God. Supposedly he wrote the song about his physical sickness, cancer, but it turns out that it was a lie, the song was really another type of sickness, his struggles with pornography...last couple of times fusion played this song, i've really fallen in love with the lyrics and the meaning of the song, and it makes me sad to hear the story of this man. He was or is sick, but his sickness is one that many men in churches struggle with, including pastors, and worship leaders. Let me rephrase that, especially pastors and worship leaders. I think the topic of pornography is not old news, we seem to think that this is not that big of a problem anymore, when we are fooling ourselves, is right up there or even worst than ever before. I think the church is in serious need to pray for the men and women in our churches that struggle with this sickness, and the church needs to continue to address it. I believe the guy that wrote this song was really speaking from his heart, unfortunately, pornography is not easy to talk about, and as a result this man had to create a decoy disease to cover his real sickness. As for the song itself, nothing changes for me, I still believe he is my healer, nothing is impossible for him, and we need to call on God to intervene in these area of our lives so we can truly be healed.

I found this story in http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 87,00.html

Hey Colombian_Dan,

Thanks for bringing this up. I also think that pornography continues to be a major struggle that many people face; pastors, evangelists, Christians, Buddhists, atheists, and CEO’s. It also gives us a glimpse of just how tough it is to be in that kind of situation, especially for pastors. This is another example of how important it is for us to pray for our leaders, and to remember how human they are. Sometimes I know I think that certain religious leaders in my life are infallible. I think that the most important thing to remember is that when something like this happens, love is the only thing that brings healing.

Hey Dan, yah, we found out about that not too long ago. Like you said, it doesn't change the meaning of the song for me so that's why we still played it this past week.

But the issue is definitely still there. It's just underground. We're looking at having xxxchurch come back in in early '09 and do a whole weekend thing at Victory. That should bring the topic back up to the surface for a little bit.
