How do you guys feel ab/ Ted DekKer novels? I just finished my first one (Thr3e) and i enjoyed it but i must admit that i didn't expect some of the content from a 'religious' author. Any thoughts?

Did you really finish that book already?!? You were like not even half-way done when I saw you on Saturday!

OK. personally.. I think Dekker is.... how can I put this... "Not all there", "not wrapped to tight"... in others words... I don't too much care for the guy... ergo... his books.

His content is questionable… and his subject matter rides a fine line between spiritual in nature and horror by design. But, hey… to each is own…

yeah i finished it quick. it was a good read as far as writing style and whatnot just some of the scenes were a bit intense for a 'Christian author'. (ie- being trapped in a dark abandoned warehouse w/ a psyco who has been trying to kill you for 2 days) There really wasn't much violence in the book though.

i would lable this more of a psycological thriller than horror. When i think of horror i think of losing limbs/digits of some kind and torture. He doesn't go there...

Well... trapped in a dark abandoned warehouse w/ a Psycho... is a hop and a skip from loosing a limb...

I guess the point is... Would you let your child read this?

that's what i am asking myself....at this point, not my 12 yr old, but i would say it is ok for the average high schooler. Of course with EVERY child there are exceptions to the rule. It depends on the kid really; his/her likes and dislikes, temperment, maturity, etc.

Yah, he was pretty freaky when he spoke at Catalyst. I saw he had some uhh...interesting novels out. Can't speak for the books w/o reading them though. However, don't see much redeeming value in a "psychological thriller" book. But, if you do, then...

But you know... we need those parts. It's like the pancreas. We're not really sure what it does but you need to have it

I like the fact that he does not water down the Gospel in the interview. He simply talks ab/ how life without Jesus can be really scary and what it feels like to be rescued from yourself. In a very dramatic and exagerated way of course

Actually, we do know what the pancreas is for...

The pancreas produces chemicals that are crucial to proper digestion and blood sugar regulation.

BTW- to amend a previous post, I have just finished another book by said author and found it a bit edgy to say the least. I think that his material would be appropriate ‘transition’ material for someone who was heavily involved in Stephen King novels and needs an alternative; however his plots are dark and a bit graphic for my taste.
